“Far Removed from Its Peculiar Roots”

Mike Wallace, correspondent for 60 Minutes:Gordon Hinckley . . . wants to portray Mormons as mainstream, not extreme. And for that Hinckley has hired a Jewish-owned public relations firm.” (Voiceover, during interview with Gordon B. Hinckley, 60 Minutes, broadcast on the CBS television network, 7 April 1996.)

And it came to pass that the Lord of the vineyard wept, and said unto the servant: . . . Who is it that has corrupted my vineyard? And it came to pass that the servant said unto his master: Is it not the loftiness of thy vineyard—have not the branches thereof overcome the roots which are good? And because the branches have overcome the roots thereof, behold they grew faster than the strength of the roots, taking strength unto themselves. Behold, I say, is not this the cause that the trees of thy vineyard have become corrupted?” (Jacob 5 : 41, 47–48.)

I re-watched this particular interview last night and couldn’t believe the way in which Pres. Hinckley dodged this question and that question. It was in a style that a politician would be proud of, not a prophet of God boldly declaring the gospel to the world. And does Jesus need a PR firm??

I just found your blog this morning through Rock Waterman’s Pure Mormonism. I haven’t read all of the posts yet but I have to thank you for having the courage to bring these topics out into the open. Of course there will be TBMs who will accuse you of being an apostate without even attempting to read or understand the warnings found in here, but they do so at their own risk because the “faith-promoting” history and teachings of the church as they are only continue to work towards their damnation and halt their progress.

The LDS church is just a “warm fuzzie” organization anymore. I want more than that. I need more than that. I can get warm fuzzies reading on my own and listening to good music. I want and need some revelation from a real prophet on the perilous times that are at our door. I don’t believe the majority of its members want anything more than warm fuzzies, so that’s what they get.
